Hello Gemma, how are you feeling today?
Anxious for my University results next week, excited because of my exhibition showcasing my university work and nervous about what the future holds. But overall feeling very happy and positive.

Could you tell us a bit about your industry?
So far I have specialised in printmaking, particularly etching but I do enjoy creating pieces with textiles and painting.

What's your latest project?
I have recently finished my project for my final year at University. This project consisted of a material wall hanging and a large section of etching prints, all relating to the theme of 'the environment and how we and other things affect it'.
I am currently in the early stages of creating work for a watercolour exhibition.

What is the project you have done that you most enjoyed?
My latest University project as mentioned above, I have put an insane amount of thought and effort in to this project in order to make it a valuable and well crafted project.

Which project do you feel that you have learnt the most from?
My latest University project. From doing this I have learnt things about myself, things about world history and my views have changed on many things that I have included in this project from discovering new things from researching for it. I hope that others can also learn new things like this when they see my art.

What/Who inspires you?
From my research whilst at University two artists have inspired me the most:

Pablo Picasso, after reading Picasso Peace and Freedom and visiting this exhibition at Liverpool Tate, I learnt a lot more about Picasso's work, his themes, the issues he addresses in his art and his life and I found that he was an amazing and inspirational man and artist and he, more than anyone else inspired me to create my latest University project.

Friedensreich Hundertwasser, a painter who had similar themes in his work to mine, about protecting and valuing the environment and spreading a message about this issue through his magnificent art work.

What are your future aspirations?
I hope to get a Masters in the future and continue to make and sell my art work.

Where would you like to be in five years time?
I would like to have a Masters. Have an art related, full time job. Still be passionate about creating my art and have traveled a little.

What advice would you give to students in creative industries?
To stay positive and continue to do what you love. Don't lose sight of what makes you happy and thrive to do your best with every task you set yourself. Hard work pays off and you will be proud of yourself in the end.
