Kenson Lai
GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Hello Kenson, how are you feeling today?
Great thanks! Just graduated yesterday so still glowing from post gown wearing, mortarboard throwing and free booze drinking (thanks NTU) frivolities.

Could you tell us a bit about your industry?
From my point of view, it's a bit of a mess as graphic design encompasses all manner of talents from a broad spectrum of backgrounds with a subjective base skill set. There is a lot of frustration, ego-pushing, mass commercial drivel that makes up a large bulk of what is 'Graphic Design' when really it is simply finding ways of communicating ideas visually. Give me a bit more experience though, and I'll probably find I'm terribly misinformed.

What is the project you have done that you most enjoyed?
The EYE ARE GRAFIK DESIGN-ERRR, was a fun project to do and it was great to finally do something personal than corporate.

What/Who inspires you?
Anyone who understands that success is not the be all and end all.

What are your future aspirations?
In short; a cat, a piano and a room covered in fairy lights. In long, a fairly successful job that makes me happy at least an arbitrary 60% of the time, to live in fairly large house with my excellent boyfriend and read more books.

What advice would you give to students in creative industries?
To not give out advice. It is far easier to say lots of broad sentences like 'Work Hard' or 'Less is More' when the best advice is usually from your own head and from your ow experiences. Every student will have their own challenges, chances and ways of working!
